The new British Standard: BS 30480
Published by the British Standards Institution in November 2025, BS 30480 is the world’s first workplace standard dedicated to suicide awareness, prevention, intervention and support following a suicide.
This session will explain what the standard means for employers and how organisations can begin putting its recommendations into practice, including:
- create a safer and more supportive workplace culture;
- equip managers to respond to someone experiencing thoughts of suicide;
- strengthen policies and support pathways; and
- prepare an effective and compassionate response following a suicide.
From Guidance to Action
This session will focus on the practical steps employers can take. Delegates will consider:
- case studies of how other employers began to adopt the standards
- round table discussion of practical actions people can take away
- how employers locally can work together to implement BSI Standards.
Postvention: Responding to an employee suicide
The final session focuses on how an employer can respond safely and compassionately to an employee suicide, looking at:
- framework for structuring a postvention response
- developing workplace toolkits
- communicating about the death and an employee support framework
- benefits of independent reviews.
